Performance Tips And Crash Workarounds

Map Scrolling

I have to apologize for the incorrect map scrolling inertia. It calculates the speed of inertia using a simple total distance dragged vs total time dragged. This works ok if you scroll at a constant speed and let go, and if there isn't much lag. But if you scroll for a bit and then stop without releasing your finger, you will find that when you let go it will again scroll unexpectedly.

Because of this, it may take some getting used to. Try to drag your finger in a smooth slow motion and let go.

Rest assured, the inertia scrolling has been fixed in the next version, as well as a setting to disable it if desired.

CRASH ON END SCENARIO work-arounds

  • some people have gotten it to work by deleting almost all old autosaves
  • disable "save replays" in preferences
  • save the game right before you will do the killing blow
  • if it still crashes, check if it made an autosave for the next scenario

MAJOR LAG work-arounds

  • delete the game, make sure you have 400mb free, reset, install, reset
  • some people (on 3g) have said they deleted some other large apps and suddenly Wesnoth ran much better, sounds stupid but true
  • reset the device before playing, if you get memory warnings

If that doesn't work, you can still get better gameplay speed by changing the preferences:
General: increase Scroll Speed, set Accelerated Speed to ON at 2 or 3
Display: turn off Unit Idle Animations
Sound: turn off background music and/or sound effects
